A recipe for The Biggest Event of the Summer: Take a Phenomenal One. Add one Face of America (preferably a New one). Add the United States Championship, and sprinkle a generous dash of Shane-O-Mac on top, and you get one of the most combustible United States Title Matches in recent memory.

After trading shocking wins and losses over the “workhorse” championship for months, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens take their white-hot rivalry to SummerSlam, as The Phenomenal One will defend his U.S. Title against KO with none other than SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon as the special guest referee.

That stipulation was made after two controversial incidents involving an official — the first at WWE Battleground when KO won the title from AJ in part because the referee was knocked loopy, and the second on SmackDown LIVE when Styles successfully retained the title against Owens because the ref missed The New Face of America’s shoulder rising off the mat.

A furious Owens demanded a rematch at SummerSlam, but he might have pressed his luck when he called for a ref that wouldn’t miss anything, as The Prodigal Son quickly volunteered himself for the task.

Given that Owens is going against a Superstar whom he’s openly antagonized for months, with an official whom he’s, well, also openly antagonized for months, he would certainly seem to have his work cut out for him. But Styles shouldn’t consider this one a gimme just yet. If there is anyone — anyone — who can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, it’s Kevin Owens, and Shane is nothing if not a man of his word: He’ll call the match down the middle whether it means handing his old WrestleMania foe a victory or a loss. In other words, after weeks of shenanigans, this one might come down to which Superstar is simply the better workhorse.

Who will walk out of Brooklyn as the United States Champion? Tune in to SummerSlam, streaming live Sunday, Aug. 20, at 8 ET/5 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.

At WWE Battleground, Kevin Owens will defend his prestigious United States Title against AJ Styles, who earned the championship opportunity by claiming a phenomenal victory in SmackDown LIVE’s Independence Day Battle Royal.

In recent weeks, Styles has let it be known that he is targeting Owens with a great desire to represent the United States as its champion. For his part, The New Face of America has repeatedly refused to let The Phenomenal One answer his New Face of America Open Challenge.

However, after Styles thwarted the titleholder’s interference in an explosive Independence Day Battle Royal on the special Fourth of July edition of the blue brand, the epic contest is now set in stone for the July 23 pay-per-view.

With each Superstar claiming the blue brand as his show, the conflict between Owens and Styles has quickly become highly personal, but can The Phenomenal One overcome the cunning United States Champion when the red, white and blue title is on the line? Don’t miss WWE Battleground, streaming live, Sunday, July 23 at 8 ET/5 PT, on the award-winning WWE Network.

Dean Ambrose challenges WWE World Champion AJ Styles at SmackDown LIVE’s next brand-exclusive pay-per-view, WWE TLC, on Dec. 4 in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match, and The Lunatic Fringe may just have James Ellsworth to thank for it.

The title match was officially announced by SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon on the Nov. 1 edition of Talking Smack, mere minutes after Ambrose defeated Styles in a non-title contest which stipulated that a victory would result in him becoming the No. 1 contender.

Though The Lunatic Fringe had been adamant that Ellsworth, who accidentally cost Ambrose a similar top-contender opportunity against Styles just one week before, stay far away from ringside, the lovable underdog couldn’t resist trying to make things right with Ambrose. Ellsworth may have defied Ambrose’s wishes, but his involvement nonetheless proved beneficial for the unhinged Superstar, paving the way for a big win over the WWE World Champion.

Now the stage is set for another highly anticipated showdown between The Lunatic Fringe and The Phenomenal One, this time in one of the most destructive matches imaginable: a TLC Match. The two Superstars have been at each other’s throats for months, and the intensity has only ratcheted up since Styles won the WWE World Title from Ambrose in September. What will happen once tables, ladders and chairs are involved?

Who will leave Dallas as SmackDown LIVE’s top dog? Can Styles fend off Ambrose’s relentless pursuit of the title, or will The Lunatic Fringe brawl his way back to championship glory? Find out at WWE TLC, which airs live on WWE Network Sunday, Dec. 4, at 8 ET/5 PT.

Raw vs. SmackDown LIVE. Only one show can survive.

The friendly competition between Team Red and Team Blue turns physical on Sunday, Nov. 20, when a five-Superstar squadron of Raw’s male Superstars take on a corps of SmackDown LIVE’s competitors in a 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Men’s Elimination Match.

After accepting SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan’s challenge to pit the shows’ rosters against each other in traditional Survivor Series format, Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and General Manager Mick Foley responded by naming WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens, United States Champion Roman Reigns and Chris Jericho to their team. Braun Strowman then won a Battle Royal on Raw to become the fourth member of Team Raw. Seth Rollins was later added as the squad’s final member, thanks to “assurances” made to The Architect by Stephanie McMahon.

SmackDown LIVE named WWE World Champion AJ Styles and his perennial challenger Dean Ambrose, as well as Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, whom The Eater of Worlds appears to have assimilated into his Family. Baron Corbin had initially been slotted as the fifth man, but after suffering an injury against a returning Kalisto, The Lone Wolf was replaced by none other than Team Blue Commissioner Shane McMahon, making his in-ring return for the first time since WrestleMania 32. Shane-O-Mac also named cult hero James Ellsworth as SmackDown LIVE’s official “mascot” heading into Survivor Series.

Which show will prevail come bell time? Find out when WWE Survivor Series airs live, Sunday, Nov. 20, at 7 ET/4 PT only on WWE Network.

AJ Styles talks a big game, but the new WWE World Champion may have talked himself into a major corner when he battles both Dean Ambrose and John Cena in a Triple Threat Match at WWE No Mercy.

On his first SmackDown LIVE after low-blowing Dean Ambrose out of the WWE World Title, The Phenomenal One proclaimed that, since he’d made good on his promise to become champion, his word was now infallible and that everything he says from here on out should be taken as fact. So, for instance, if he was to claim that he could beat The Lunatic Fringe and John Cena, whom he knocked off at SummerSlam, in the same match, the WWE Universe would just have to take his word for it.

Luckily, SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon was happy to arrange just such a test for Styles, putting Ambrose’s guaranteed one-on-one rematch on the shelf (he’ll get it at a later date, according to Shane) in favor of a Triple Threat Match between Styles, a frothing Ambrose and Cena, who returned for the first time since his defeat at SummerSlam to make a play for a potentially record-tying 16th World Championship.

Can AJ Styles cement his status as the new “Face That Runs the Place”? Or is his time up before it even began? Find out on WWE No Mercy, live Sunday, Oct. 9, at 8 ET/4 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.

AJ Styles has pinned “The Face that Runs the Place,” twice. Now, The Phenomenal One sets his sight on The Lunatic Fringe that runs the asylum.

Styles will challenge WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose at WWE Backlash Sunday, Sept. 11, live on WWE Network. If Styles’ recent win streak is any indication, The Lunatic Fringe may be facing his biggest threat yet.

The Phenomenal One ensured the title match would remain a one-on-one contest by defeating former World Champion Dolph Ziggler on the Aug. 23 edition of SmackDown Live. Yet, even before that, Styles had accumulated an impressive string of major victories including, most notably, going 2-0 against John Cena in singles competition this summer.

Though the involvement of Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson tainted Styles’ first win over the Cenation leader, Styles needed no outside assistance to defeat Cena in their all-time classic return match at SummerSlam.

Styles might have the wind at his back heading into SmackDown Live’s first brand-exclusive pay-per-view, but he also has an unpredictable and unrelenting Lunatic Fringe staring him in the face on Sept. 11. Ambrose’s devil-may-care attitude has benefited his title reign thus far; will his kinetic style of fisticuffs continue to pay dividends against the dynamic force that is AJ Styles?

The Club have made an enemy of John Cena, but fortunately for the Cenation leader, backup has arrived, and it’s anything but “sawft.”

Two of The New Era’s most popular Superstars, Enzo Amore & Big Cass, will join Cena to take on AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson in six-man tag team action at WWE Battleground on July 24, live on WWE Network. For Cena, the alliance with “The Realest Guys in the Room” evens the odds in his ongoing rivalry with the malicious triumvirate of Styles, Gallows & Anderson.

Gallows & Anderson brazenly interfered in Cena’s duel with Styles at WWE Money in the Bank, paving the way to a historic Styles victory and arguably ruining a dream match that had been 15 years in the making. With Cena’s focus no doubt locked on The Phenomenal One, Enzo & Cass may just represent the perfect antidote to Gallows & Anderson. Though lacking the experience of their double-tough, world-traveled opponents, Enzo & Cass have exhibited an uncommon knack for never backing down from a fight in the short time they’ve been in WWE.

Will Cena lead his young but hungry teammates to a pivotal victory at WWE Battleground? Or will The Club’s well-tuned teamwork and relentless brutality win out? Don’t miss this explosive Six-Man Tag Team Match when WWE Battleground airs live on WWE Network Sunday, July 24, at 8 ET/5 PT.

John Cena’s return to WWE pay-per-view will be nothing short of a blockbuster encounter, as he faces AJ Styles at WWE Money in the Bank in a battle as highly anticipated as any WrestleMania main event to date. The dream match marks not only Cena’s first official match on WWE pay-per-view since last October, but also his first time ever competing against The Phenomenal One, who has taken WWE by storm since debuting in January.

Revealed exclusively by WWE.com, the bout was precipitated by Styles confronting Cena immediately following the Cenation leader’s comeback speech. After alluding to the fact that the future of WWE has to go through Cena, Styles — arguably the most prominent representative of WWE’s New Era — showed his true colors, joining Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows in ambushing Cena. The Club’s 3-on-1 attack occurred just one week after Styles seemingly parted ways with his hard-hitting comrades.

Though the Cenation leader made a headline-grabbing cameo at WrestleMania, his upcoming match against Styles will be the biggest test to date for his surgically repaired right shoulder. Cena underwent surgery in January to repair a torn rotator cuff and remove loose tissue from the shoulder and, thanks to a tireless rehabilitation period, became cleared for action in record time. Despite the heroic recovery, the question remains: Will Cena’s shoulder hold up against Styles’ attack?

Cena tweeted his initial reactions to the dream match announcement, including a hint of anticipation about “15 years of wondering ‘what if'” coming to an end at WWE Money in the Bank.

The Phenomenal One is not only a masterful competitor, but a dangerous one, too, and, based on The Club’s skullduggery, unpredictable. Styles has put in one remarkable performance after another, but has been unable to secure a victory on pay-pre-view since February. What better way for the dynamic, high-flying veteran to earn his stripes in WWE and rebound from his consecutive main-event losses than by spoiling Cena’s return?Styles provided the first clue on Facebook Live with an instant reaction to a match he described as “WrestleMania … come early.”

No more count-outs. No more disqualifications. No more restarting the match to prevent a technicality from deciding the result. Just Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and whatever is at their disposal in an Extreme Rules Match at WWE Extreme Rules to decide it all.

That’s a big jump for Reigns and Styles to make considering their first title match at WWE Payback was predicated on Styles having “the match of his life” in order to unseat Reigns’ self-proclaimed status as “the guy” around these parts. But with the introduction of Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson as potential accomplices to an unwitting Styles, it quickly became clear that Reigns’ first title defense of the New Era wasn’t exactly going to be first fall to a finish.

Even so, nobody expected quite how out of hand it was going to get. Things got so messy at WWE Payback that it took several restarts of the match by both Shane and Stephanie McMahon to eventually get to a fall at all, and only when the match had mutated into a No Count-out, No Disqualification contest was Reigns able to seize his win. That’s hardly a decisive victory, though, and it was almost immediately decided among the McMahons that drastic measures would be taken to protect the return bout, so here we are with an Extreme Rules Match to show for it.
