A PHENOMENAL ENCOUNTER! AJ Styles has had his words come back to bite him in so many ways as of late. Due to the shenanigans of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Styles has to now defend his championship in a #Fatal5Way match at Fastlane. AJ opens the show tonight saying he’s beaten everyone in the match besides Baron Corbin. Corbin came out to make sure Styles knew about their last encounter where he beat him. What will happen when AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin takes place in the main event?

WWE.com has all the latest highlights about AJ Styles’ night.

With what might be his greatest challenge as WWE Champion fast approaching, AJ Styles kicked off SmackDown LIVE to discuss his Fatal 5-Way Match at WWE Fastlane, declaring that he is always in control of his own destiny (even in a match that doesn’t require him to be pinned or submitted to lose his title). The Phenomenal One reminded the WWE Universe that he has defeated Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler, and he seemed primed to mention Baron Corbin’s name … until The Lone Wolf hit the scene.

Corbin reminded Styles that he had come away victorious the last two times they competed and seemed confident in his ability to do it again (or claim a win over anyone else) to become the new champion at WWE Fastlane. Irritated by the claims made by Styles and Corbin, KO hit the scene and claimed that the issues between him and Zayn caused KO to lose to Corbin last week. Owens suggested that he would’ve come out on top if he had all night to prepare, like Zayn did for Ziggler.

SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon then arrived to give KO that exact opportunity, first making Styles vs. Corbin in the main event and then Owens vs. Ziggler next on SmackDown LIVE!

An old rivalry was rekindled on SmackDown LIVE, as Baron Corbin attempted to make a major statement against WWE Champion AJ Styles in a non-title contest, with the Fatal-5 Way Match at WWE Fastlane casting a large shadow.

Corbin, who had come out on top against Styles the last two times they faced, competed with confidence because of his track record. The Lone Wolf used his size and strength advantages to wear Styles down, making it difficult for the WWE Champion to get rolling with his explosive offense. However, as he always does, Styles rallied, breaking free from The Lone Wolf’s clutches, taking to the skies and putting him down for three following an utterly Phenomenal Forearm.

The Phenomenal One would have no time to celebrate, however, as Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn hit the ring and pounced on Styles, knocking him out of the squared circle. KO followed Styles’ limp body to the outside, while Zayn stayed inside the ring. The tides quickly turned, though, when Corbin found a burst of energy and dropped an unsuspecting Zayn with End of Days. Owens, noticing this, hit the ring to attempt to avenge his best friend, but he felt a similar fate, also succumbing to The Lone Wolf’s End of Days.

Corbin lost the battle, but he proved that there is a lot of road left to go before anyone wins the war at WWE Fastlane.

Kevin and Sami prepare to corner Nakamura, but AJ’s music plays and he makes his way to the stage.

AJ says you can cry and complain all you want, but there will be a dream match in New Orleans on the grandest stage of them all. It will be between him and Shinsuke Nakamura. Right here, right now, in Philly, on the House that AJ Styles Built, AJ suggests they turn this dream match into a dream team and take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn tonight.

Kevin leaves the ring and so does Sami. Kevin say something to Sami and Sami says if you really want this match . . . NOPE!

Styles and Nakamura with forearms to knock Kevin and Sami off the apron.

Nakamura is in the locker room and AJ stops by and he asks if they want to discuss their game plan. Nakamura says he is going to win at Wrestlemania. AJ reminds Nakamura about their match tonight. Nakamura says he is going to beat AJ at Wrestlemania. AJ asks if Nakamura is messing with him and Nakamura says he is messing with him and he tells AJ to listen to him.

WWE.com has a full summary on “The Dream Match” opponents AJStyles & Shinsuke Nakamura joint Forces.

This dream tag team match proved to be as unpredictable as it was exciting, as AJ Styles & Shinsuke Nakamura joined forces to face off against Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn in Team Blue’s thrilling main event. However, a major wrench was thrown into the situation earlier in the evening when SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan announced that Kevin Owens would square off against Sami Zayn next week, and the winner would challenge Styles for the WWE Championship at the next SmackDown LIVE pay-per-view, WWE Fastlane.

It appeared Owens & Zayn had put their looming showdown next week in the back of their minds when the opening bell rang for their monumental clash with Styles & Nakamura. However, the looming contest couldn’t be forgotten for long, as Owens angered Zayn, prompting Zayn to briefly leave Owens by his lonesome. Zayn returned, but the dissension between the two “Yep!” Movement members remained apparent, causing Zayn to leave for a second time!

With Sami gone, Owens could not overcome the numbers game and fell to Nakamura’s pinpoint Kinshasa. Renee Young caught up with Zayn backstage to ask him if we had just seen the end of The “Yep!” Movement. Sami answered with an emphatic no, but he also made it clear that he planned on exiting KO’s shadow next week on SmackDown LIVE when he defeated him to become the next challenger for AJ Styles’ WWE Title at WWE Fastlane.

A Phenomenal Miracle! Last week on SmackDown Live, AJ Styles went one on one with Kevin Owens, with Sami Zayn in his corner. As Styles pinned Owens for the win, Zayn interfered. When Zayn was barred from ringside by Shane McMahon, Owens gained a victory off of the distraction.

AJ had a costly defeat due to outside interference. This week on SmackDown Live, Styles gets retribution going head to head with Sami Zayn. This time, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon will be at ringside. How will the Phenomenal One fair? Can he get a win on the first SmackDown Live Of The year?

AJ Styles vs Sami Zayn starts off fast paced as Styles goes right after Zayn. Zayn soon rolls on the outside of the ring and everyone ringside has a staredown.

This match goes back and forth until AJ looks to pick up the win. The referee rolls on the outside to prevent being run over. Feeling defeat for his friend looming, Owens blocks the referee from getting back in the ring. Shane McMahon steps in and kicks Owens from ringside. Daniel Bryan says if Owens goes, then McMahon has to go too. With all of the confusion going on, Styles gets blindsided by Zayn. He loses again this week.

After the match, the frustrated Styles says with all the distractions during the matches, he can’t have a entertaining match for the fans. He said since Owens & Zayn can’t get a win on their own, he should have a handicap match with them both.

WWE.com has all the highlights from this triangle of distractions and side taking.

ORLANDO — Following another controversial situation involving Commissioner Shane McMahon inadvertently costing WWE Champion AJ Styles his match against Kevin Owens last week on Team Blue, Shane-O-Mac made a point to apologize to Styles during the opening moments of SmackDown LIVE. With Team Blue General Manager Daniel Bryan also in the ring, Shane declared that he would be in The Phenomenal One’s corner for tonight’s match between Styles and Sami Zayn. With that out in the open, The “Yes!” Man responded by stating that he would not only allow Owens to be at ringside, but that he too would be at ringside tonight.

With Kevin Owens in Sami Zayn’s corner, Shane McMahon in AJ Styles’ corner and Daniel Bryan seemingly in a neutral corner, Zayn and Styles faced off in a thrilling main event.

With an odd aura surrounding the contest due to the three men lurking at ringside, Styles and Zayn engaged in combat. In the match’s pivotal moments, KO attempted to interject himself into the contest after the referee took a tumble. This caused Shane to get physical with Owens, then prompted the official to throw KO out from ringside. However, he was one-upped by Bryan, who then suggested that Shane-O-Mac should also be ejected. This distraction caused Styles to get caught with a pinpoint Helluva Kick from Zayn, which resulted in another controversial victory for The “Yep!” Movement.

After the contest, Styles was so worked up that he, in frustration, challenged both Owens and Zayn to a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. Surprisingly, Bryan then got on the microphone and declared that exact match would happen … at the Royal Rumble … for the WWE Title.

A Stylin’ Victory! AJ Styles has defended his WWE Championship against all comers as of late. He had to deal with the Modern Day Maharaja and The Singh Brothers for weeks. Now that they are in his past, he has to deal with the Kevin Owens Sami Zayn duo.

During Styles vs Owens, Styles came out on fire. He even caught Owens in a Calf Crusher but Owens got to the ropes. No matter what Styles did, it seemed as Owens always fought through it. Sami Zayn decided to jump on the ring and distract the referee. When Shane came out to throw Zayn out, Styles rolled up Owens as the crowd counted to three. The referee and AJ got into a little argument about the rollup when Owens slid behind Styles to roll him up for the three count.

WWE.com has all the latest on what happened during the match.

It’s probably fitting for the last SmackDown LIVE match of 2017 to end in absolute chaos. WWE Champion AJ Styles and Kevin Owens (with Sami Zayn in his corner) threw down in this chaotic main event.

During the match, Styles went to dive onto Owens on the outside the ring, though KO got out of the way, and AJ instead connected with Zayn. With Styles gearing up for the Phenomenal Forearm moments later, Zayn got on the apron to try and prevent AJ’s attack. Styles swung and missed at Zayn, who hopped off the apron, which prompted SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon to hit the scene to get the official to eject Zayn from ringside.

As Shane-O-Mac, Sami and the official had words, Styles caught Owens in a small package that very well could have scored him the victory. However, since the referee was preoccupied with Zayn and Shane, AJ relinquished the small package to try and regain the official’s attention. The distraction left Styles vulnerable, and KO turned the tide by rolling Styles up for the win. After the contest, Owens and Zayn celebrated as The Phenomenal One shot a look to the Commissioner as he exited up the ramp, though Shane appeared to offer an apology to the WWE Champion.

The war is clearly ongoing, but the final battle of 2017 was awarded to Owens & Zayn.

A Phenomenal Thank You! Tribute To The Troops have been going strong for 15 years. This is the one night of the year, when WWE says thank you to all who sacrifice their time, health and life to defend our freedom each and every day. To say thank you is not enough, the WWE shows these men and women how thankful they are. They give these troops a night off. They fight for them.

A.J. Styles teamed up with Shinsuke Nakamura, and Randy Orton to take on Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Jinder Mahal. This match had a lot of pent up aggression from Owens and Zayn, who will be fighting to keep their jobs on Sunday. In the end, Styles, Nakamura and Orton picked up the win.

At WWE Clash of Champions, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura will team up to battle Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn – with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan as Special Guest Referees. If Owens and Zayn lose, they will be fired from WWE. Also at WWE Clash of Champions, WWE Champion AJ Styles will defend his title against Jinder Mahal – thus making this Six-Man Tag Team Match at TV’s most heartwarming and patriotic show of the year an absolute must-watch.

With momentum for WWE Clash of Champions at stake, both trios were ready for a fight, with Owens struggling to gain an early advantage against The Viper. Throughout the contest, the teamwork of Nakamura, Orton and Styles proved to be the deciding factor, as the team of Mahal, Zayn and Owens had to rely on The Singh Brothers to turn the tide.

However, the advantage was short-lived, as Styles came into the fray and unleashed a relentless offense on KO. As the contest swung back and forth, chaos soon broke loose as all the participants brawled all over the ring, leading to a Phenomenal Forearm on Owens, an RKO to Mahal and Nakamura delivering a stinging Kinshasa to Zayn for the win.

A Stylish Call Out! After his loss at Survivor Series, A.J. Styles is now focused on calling out Jinder Mahal. Coming out to the ring, the crowd chants his name. Styles says he wish he could celebrate after the match he had at Survivor Series. He hit Lesnar with everything he had. It wasn’t enough. He talks about the praise he got after the match. He said that this is the WWE and you don’t get praised for coming in second. Styles said that if Brock wants a rematch he can have it. A.J. said that Jinder says that at SmackDown Live, he would take the championship away. Styles says he is ready. Jinder says he will get his rematch at Clash of Champions. Jinder sends The Singh Brothers to attack A.J. Caught off gaurd, Styles goes down, but then regroups and beats down the brothers. He ended it by Styles Clash to a Singh Brother. For the full rundown check out what WWE.com had to say below.

Jinder Mahal tried to get the leg up on AJ Styles

Following his instant classic of a contest with Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, WWE Champion AJ Styles came to SmackDown LIVE with one purpose: To settle the score with Jinder Mahal … right now! The Phenomenal One was ready to put his title on the line, but a defiant Mahal responded via the TitanTron, seemingly with no intention of locking up with Styles tonight. Instead, The Modern Day Maharaja declared that he would be invoking his rematch clause at WWE Clash of Champions next month, noting that Texas isn’t deserving of such a match to the ire of the WWE Universe.

Then, before Styles could retort, he was ambushed by Mahal’s faithful cohorts, The Singh Brothers. It wasn’t before long, though, until AJ vanquished both Singhs while he forced Mahal to watch from the Tron as he nailed an emphatic Styles Clash.

After overcoming Jinder Mahal in a title bout in Manchester, England, newly-crowned WWE Champion AJ Styles will go head-to-head against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar in a daunting Champion vs. Champion Match at Survivor Series, and the WWE Universe truly can’t wait to see it.

Refusing to be sidetracked by the tension building over the imminent battle for brand supremacy between Raw and SmackDown at WWE’s fall classic, Styles made it clear for several weeks that Mahal and the WWE Title were in his sights, while The Modern Day Maharaja insisted that there was no worthy competition on SmackDown LIVE and instead preferred to put his focus on The Conqueror. This smoldering conflict led to Styles having several volatile altercations with Mahal and his cohorts The Singh Brothers, but when the two finally clashed for the WWE Title in the U.K., The Phenomenal One reigned supreme.

Now that Styles stands on top of the SmackDown mountain, the WWE Universe will bear witness to a classic encounter to see who truly rules the roost in WWE, the Universal Champion or the WWE Champion, in a meeting of destiny between WWE’s two top titleholders and two Superstars who are truly at the top of their game. As incredible as Styles is, however, does he have what takes to conquer The Beast? After all, Lesnar has waged war after war in a monstrous run that has seen him beat, victimize and conquer WWE’s most formidable competitors.

A recipe for The Biggest Event of the Summer: Take a Phenomenal One. Add one Face of America (preferably a New one). Add the United States Championship, and sprinkle a generous dash of Shane-O-Mac on top, and you get one of the most combustible United States Title Matches in recent memory.

After trading shocking wins and losses over the “workhorse” championship for months, AJ Styles and Kevin Owens take their white-hot rivalry to SummerSlam, as The Phenomenal One will defend his U.S. Title against KO with none other than SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon as the special guest referee.

That stipulation was made after two controversial incidents involving an official — the first at WWE Battleground when KO won the title from AJ in part because the referee was knocked loopy, and the second on SmackDown LIVE when Styles successfully retained the title against Owens because the ref missed The New Face of America’s shoulder rising off the mat.

A furious Owens demanded a rematch at SummerSlam, but he might have pressed his luck when he called for a ref that wouldn’t miss anything, as The Prodigal Son quickly volunteered himself for the task.

Given that Owens is going against a Superstar whom he’s openly antagonized for months, with an official whom he’s, well, also openly antagonized for months, he would certainly seem to have his work cut out for him. But Styles shouldn’t consider this one a gimme just yet. If there is anyone — anyone — who can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, it’s Kevin Owens, and Shane is nothing if not a man of his word: He’ll call the match down the middle whether it means handing his old WrestleMania foe a victory or a loss. In other words, after weeks of shenanigans, this one might come down to which Superstar is simply the better workhorse.

Who will walk out of Brooklyn as the United States Champion? Tune in to SummerSlam, streaming live Sunday, Aug. 20, at 8 ET/5 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.

At WWE Battleground, Kevin Owens will defend his prestigious United States Title against AJ Styles, who earned the championship opportunity by claiming a phenomenal victory in SmackDown LIVE’s Independence Day Battle Royal.

In recent weeks, Styles has let it be known that he is targeting Owens with a great desire to represent the United States as its champion. For his part, The New Face of America has repeatedly refused to let The Phenomenal One answer his New Face of America Open Challenge.

However, after Styles thwarted the titleholder’s interference in an explosive Independence Day Battle Royal on the special Fourth of July edition of the blue brand, the epic contest is now set in stone for the July 23 pay-per-view.

With each Superstar claiming the blue brand as his show, the conflict between Owens and Styles has quickly become highly personal, but can The Phenomenal One overcome the cunning United States Champion when the red, white and blue title is on the line? Don’t miss WWE Battleground, streaming live, Sunday, July 23 at 8 ET/5 PT, on the award-winning WWE Network.
